During the summer of 1996, when I was seven years old, I became a Sierra Silver Fin. Over the next decade, my summers were filled with swim friends, food from the snack bar and swim meets. Because of the Silver Fins, I developed a love for the water. Eventually, I learned all the strokes and competed in all the events. My most memorable Silver Fin summer was when I was 14 years old, because I placed first in my three individual events at CVRSL Finals. Even though I live in the Prather foothills, I attended Lincoln Elementary, Kastner Intermediate and Clovis West High School, because my mother is a teacher with Clovis Unified. I swam and played water polo at Kastner and Clovis West. I swam all individual events in high school, but eventually focused on butterfly and freestyle. I was fortunate to swim varsity all four years, able to qualify and place in the top eight for individual events at high school valley finals and had the opportunity to be a part of several valley first-place relay teams. Also, I had the distinction of being an All-American High School Swimmer. During my freshman year of college, I swam on Fresno Pacific University’s first-year swim team and played on the first-year women’s water polo team. I enjoyed collegiate sports, but due to a long-needed shoulder surgery in August of last summer, I no longer participate at the college level. Instead, I find enjoyment in coaching, and have assisted Coach Peter Richardson at FPU this year. For two seasons, I have been an assistant coach at Kastner Intermediate for swimming, and the head coach for eighth-grade girls’ water polo. Currently, I am taking classes at Willow Center and Fresno City College; my career plan is to be become a teacher. I still live at home, in Prather, with my parents, Gary and Reggie, and my older brother, Jimmy. My dog, Bella, is also an important part of my life. I look forward to being the head coach of the Sierra Silver Fins…once a Silver Fin, always a Silver Fin.
